Spartans, Saints and A's all win weekend games

ST. CATHARINES -
Evan Scott scored twice and added three helpers Sunday night to spark the St. Catharines Spartans to a 10-7 win over the Welland Generals in Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B action at the Welland Arena.
Danny Blocho scored twice for the Spartans, who were tied 3-3 after one period and led 6-5 going into the final frame. Also scoring goals or multiple points for the Spartans were Cree Blakely and Ryan McGuire (1-2-3); Brett Erskine (1-1-2); Jacob Schenck (0-2-2); and Brett Pace, Jason Sawicki and Colton DeWolfe (1-0-1).
Notching goals for Welland were Talon Badawey (2), Brandon Porga (2), Brycen Thoms, Connor Merritt and Cameron Phillips.
The Spartans host the Hamilton Bengals Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Merritton Arena.
Saints 8 James Gang 5
Dan Keane set up five goals Saturday night to help the visiting St. Catharines Saints record an 8-5 win over the Ennismore James Gang in OLA senior B play.
Also contributing goals or multiple points for the Saints were Tory VanEvery (2-2-4); Lloyd Chrysler and Dylan Llord (1-1-2); Geoff McNulty (0-2-2); and Andy Tober, Blue Hill, Bryce Maher and Mason Wright (1-0-1). Grant Crawley picked up the win in goal for St. Catharines.
Scoring goals for Ennismore were Jeff Swift (3), Chris Lopes and Mack O’Brien.
The Saints also played Sunday afternoon against Brooklin, but no information was available at press time.
A’s 12 Lakeshores 11
The visiting St. Catharines Athletics built a 10-5 lead after two periods over the Barrie Lakeshores Friday night, then hung on to a 12-11 victory in OLA junior A lacrosse action.
Scoring goals or multiple points for the A’s were Josh Rex (2-3-5); Hunter David (1-4-5); Jeff Wittig (3-1-4); Charlie Sheehan and Kyle Pedwell (1-2-3); Nicholas Beaudoin (2-0-2); Billy Saxton and Holden Garlent (1-1-2); and Latrell Harris and Marcus Butters (0-2-2).
Leading Barrie were Spencer Pyke with three goals and two assists and Austin Murphy with a goal and five helpers.
The ninth-place Athletics (3-9) host Mimico (2-9) Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Jack Gatecliff Arena.
