The Spartans jumped out to an early 4-1 lead 11 minutes into the first period, before the Red Devils answered with four of the next five goals tying the game 5-5 after 20 minutes.
Wallaceburg would take an 8-6 lead nine minutes into the second period. St. Catharines would cut the lead to one at the end of two periods trailing 9-8.
In the third period, the Spartans outscored Wallaceburg 2-0 with Charlie Sheehan adding both goals, including the game winner with 1:20 left in regulation.
St. Catharines had six different goal scorers in the contest led by Charlie Sheehan who recorded four goals. Bryson Filipetti had a five point night adding one goal and four assists. Captain Kyle Potter contributed with a goal and three helpers while Ty Carvalho added two goals and one assist. Rounding out the Spartan goal scoring were Danny Blocho (1G, 1A) and Michael Bosse (1G).
Leading Wallaceburg was Jordan Durston who led all scorers with six points adding three goals and three assists. Lucas Beaver had a four goal game while Neil McIroy and Evan Mathany added singles.
Spartan netminder Nick Damude was outstanding in the third period registering 14 of his game high 34 saves for the victory. Wallaceburg starter Eric Shepley collected 37 saves in the loss.
This was a penalty filled affair which saw both teams combine for 159 penalty minutes.
Spartan General Manager Chris Spiers said "It wasn't pretty, but we'll take the win!"
The Spartan return to action Sunday, May 5th at 7pm when they host the Owen Sound NorthStars at the Merritton Centennial Arena.
