Spartans improve to 2-0 with 10-5 victory over Owen Sound

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The St. Catharines Spartan Jr. B's improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated the Owen Sound NorthStars by the score of 10-5 Sunday night in their home opener at Merritton Centennial Arena.

St. Catharines opened the game with five straight goals and led 5-1 after one period and 7-2 after 40 minutes en route to their second straight win to begin the 2013 campaign.

Spartan captain Kyle Potter led all scorers with an eight-point night registering two goals and six assists. Ty Carvalho contributed with four goals and one assist. Trevor Hines added one goal and three helpers while Charlie Sheehan (2G, 1A) and Corey Antongiovanni (1G, 2A) chipped in with three points each.  Jeff Wittig and Evan Scott also had multiple point games adding two assists each.

Scoring for the NorthStars were CJ Arthur (1G, 2A), Marcella, Micah (2G), Brenden Welsh (1G) and Ryan Hamelin (1G).

In goal, Spartans Nick Damude recorded 25 saves for his second straight victory. Owen Sound starter Dylan Sheard allowed 10 goals on 32 shots in the loss.

St. Catharines returns to action on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 pm when they host the Niagara Thunderhawks at Merritton Centennial Arena. They will also be at home for three straight; May 10th vs Orangeville (8pm), May 16th vs Welland (7:30pm) and May 18th vs Windsor (7:00pm).
